Stellest Glasses — A Smarter Way to Manage Childhood Myopia

If your child's vision prescription keeps getting stronger each year, you're not alone. Myopia or nearsightedness is one of the most common and rapidly growing vision conditions among school-age children. At OC Optometry Group, we offer Stellest glasses as part of our pediatric myopia management program, helping families in Newport Beach and throughout Orange County take a proactive approach to their child's long-term eye health.

What Are Stellest Glasses?

Stellest lenses are a specialized eyeglass technology developed by Essilor, designed to do two things at once: correct your child's current prescription and actively work to slow the progression of myopia over time.

Unlike conventional lenses that simply bring distant objects into focus, Stellest lenses feature a unique highly aspherical lenslet (H.A.L.T.) design that creates multiple focal points across the retina. This advanced optical approach helps send signals to the eye to reduce excessive axial elongation, the underlying cause of worsening nearsightedness.

Children wear Stellest glasses just like any other pair of eyeglasses. No overnight wear, no drops, no lifestyle changes,  making them one of the most accessible and family-friendly myopia management options available.

How Do Stellest Lenses Work?

As a child grows, their eyes can continue to lengthen, which causes light to fall in front of the retina rather than directly on it, the mechanism behind myopia. Unchecked, this progression can lead to increasingly strong prescriptions and, over time, a higher risk of serious eye conditions.

Stellest lenses work by surrounding the central clear-vision zone with a constellation of aspherical lenslets. These lenslets create a volume of light in front of the peripheral retina, signaling the eye to slow its growth. Clinical studies showed that children wearing Stellest lenses full-time had, on average, 67% slower myopia progression compared to children wearing standard single-vision lenses.

Benefits of Stellest Glasses
  • Worn like regular glasses — no special routine required
  • Clinically proven to slow myopia progression
  • Comfortable for full-day wear at school, sports, and screen time
  • Non-invasive option ideal for younger children
  • Available with a range of frame styles kids actually want to wear
  • Can be combined with other myopia management strategies when needed
Who Is a Good Candidate for Stellest Glasses?

Stellest glasses may be recommended for children who:

  • Have been recently diagnosed with myopia
  • Show rapid prescription changes year over year
  • Spend significant time on near tasks such as reading or device use
  • Have one or both parents with nearsightedness (a key risk factor)
  • Prefer glasses over contact lenses

During a dedicated Myopia Management Consultation at our Newport Beach practice, our doctors will evaluate your child's prescription history, eye health, and lifestyle to determine whether Stellest is the right fit  or whether a combination approach would be more effective.

Why Early Myopia Management Matters

High myopia (prescriptions above -6.00 diopters) is associated with a significantly elevated risk of conditions such as retinal detachment, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and cataracts later in life. By slowing progression during the critical developmental years, we can help reduce the likelihood of reaching those higher prescription levels.

The earlier treatment begins, the greater the potential benefit. If you've noticed your child squinting, sitting closer to screens, or receiving stronger prescriptions at each visit, now is the time to explore myopia management.

Schedule a Myopia Management Consultation at OC Optometry Group and learn whether Stellest glasses are the right step for your child's vision future.
